ALLIANCE CREDIT UNION PROVIDES SOME HOLIDAY CHEER
San Jose, CA-based CU Hands Out Gift Cards at Christmas in the Park Event

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – December 29, 2011 — Alliance Credit Union got into the spirit of the season of giving by handing out $20 credit union Visa® gift cards to 40 random people during two nights of the Christmas in the Park event in downtown San Jose.

It was another Make a Difference event for the San Jose-based credit union. The Make a Difference mission is to surprise people with random acts of kindness and to spread generosity throughout the community. On December 20 and 22, Alliance CU team members did just that by giving out 20 gift cards on each night. Each gift card was inside a holiday greeting card with the following message: We hope your holidays are filled with all the joys of the season and we’re able to make a difference in your day. There’s no better time to spread goodwill and generosity throughout our community. So enjoy this gift card with our compliments. Please spend it locally and support small business.

“We’ve held a $1 bill giveaway and treated people to lunch, but since it’s the holidays, we thought it would be nice to make a bigger impact on a few families in our community,” explained SVP of Marketing & Retail Delivery Emily Condon. “We thought perhaps they could use it for last-minute gifts, help with groceries, or even pay it forward and make a difference in someone else’s life. All of this was with no strings attached, as with the previous Make a Difference events; we just wanted to put a smile on a few faces this holiday season.”

Many of the recipients were indeed pleasantly surprised and one even used it to serve others. In an email to the credit union, the recipient thanked the staff for the event, and said she and her daughters “used the $20 (with some added from their piggy banks) at Toys R Us this morning to buy gifts for kids at the San Jose Family Shelter on Las Palmas Ave. It was a generous and unexpected gift that we turned into another unexpected gift. Thank you for helping remind both me and my girls about the true meaning of Christmas.“

A video of the two day’s events can be seen at www.facebook.com/alliancecu.

ALLIANCE CREDIT UNION RAISES MORE THAN $8,300 FOR AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
San Jose, CA-based CU Participates in Recent Cancer Society “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Walks in CA and NC

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – November 2, 2011 — The San Jose, CA-based Alliance Credit Union raised more than $8,300 for the American Cancer Society, participating in the organization’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Walks.

Alliance Credit Union, which has participated in the walks since 2004, raised a record $5,876—plus an additional $2,500 corporate sponsorship—for a total of $8,376 for the American Cancer Society. Seventy walkers from the credit union participated in walks in San Jose, CA and Wilmington, NC.

Forty-five Alliance staffers and members walked in the Wilmington walk on October 22. Alliance was a flagship sponsor for the event. A few days later, on October 29, 25 walkers participated in the San Jose walk.

“We had ‘Pink Fridays’ at work during the month of October, where staff could wear pink shirts and jeans for a donation,” said SVP of Marketing & Retail Delivery Emily Condon. “It was another way for those at the credit union to support this very important cause and organization.”

ALLIANCE CREDIT UNION GIVES AWAY FREE MONEY!
500 Free Dollar Bills Encourage Spending at Local Businesses

Fremont, CA, October 26, 2011 — Today, Alliance Credit Union handed out 500 free one-dollar bills to 500 customers at the Fremont Bart Station at 7AM in the morning. It was good for a cup of coffee, a newspaper, but most of all it was another step in Alliance’s crusade to let customers know they are actively supporting local businesses and serious about helping the community. Affixed to each dollar bill was a sticker that stated the Alliance message simply and clearly: “Make a Difference—and spend this at your favorite local business.”

On Friday, September 16th, Alliance Credit Union, bought lunch for 35 patrons of Madhuban Indian Cuisine restaurant of Sunnyvale. It was completely unannounced, just small signs on the tables that read: “What if someone did something nice for you today, just because?” When it was time to pay the check, one of Alliance’s “Make a Difference” team members told restaurant-goers that lunch was on the credit union. Customers were surprised, excited—others didn’t believe they were getting a free lunch. And now Alliance is giving away money.

Alliance has a full portfolio of services to offer their customers just like the big banks. Alliance also has an expressed objective to help the community and the people that live there build a sustainable financial future.

Emily Condon, senior vice president of marketing and retail delivery for Alliance Credit Union, says, “We offer everything a bank offers, and what our members like is that we know people by name and we truly value their business.”

They have checking, savings, a variety of loan products, and all manner of banking services. The difference between Alliance and big banks is not only the attitude but real tangible benefits. Benefits include free checking with no monthly maintenance fee (and no catch), Visa cards with a 4.99% introductory APR for 9 months (and free $100,000 in travel accident insurance per ticket), credit lines up to $20,000, and free debit cards with shopping rewards versus fees. Oh, and banker’s hours at Alliance are 24/7 with online, mobile, and text banking.

They also have an auto buying center to simplify purchasing a car—where and how to find them, finance them, and protect them—at 1% below invoice on new vehicles at selected dealerships. Alliance customers will also receive guaranteed pricing of below mid-Kelly Blue Book on 90% of used vehicles in inventory.

To accommodate your largest and most important single purchase, Alliance has a home buying center too with a full array of first mortgages—take your pick from competitive fixed or adjustable rates depending on your individual goals—as well as home equity lines of credit and second mortgage loans.

Bank Transfer Day—the initiative launched on Facebook by Kristen Christian—is urging people to take action on November 5 by switching their money from big banks to credit unions or community banks whose practices they respect. Thus far, more than 51,000 people have pledged to make that switch.

This kind of response is no surprise to anyone who has seen the news recently. The public is unhappy— “fed up” would be more accurate—with the new banking fees. Emily Condon says, “We’re absolutely seeing an increase in interest, on our web site especially. We’re seeing increased visits to our ‘About Us,’ ‘How to Become a Member,’ and ‘Accounts’ pages.”

Alliance has offices in three counties in the San Francisco Bay Area. And, of course, one of those offices is in Fremont where commuters got a free buck this morning at the BART station. Alliance is determined to continue its “Make a Difference” campaign with these random acts of kindness to make sure that customers understand that Alliance has their best interests at heart.

Who knows where the Alliance “Make a Difference” team will show up next?

ALLIANCE CONTINUES TO OFFER FREE CHECKING
San Jose-based Credit Union Offers Choice for Consumers Facing Monthly Service Charges and Debit Fees

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – October 7, 2011 – With the news of increased monthly service fees and charges for debit card usage at some banks, San Jose-based Alliance Credit Union plans to continue to offer free checking for its members.

“Consumers should have a choice of a free checking account without losing convenience,” said SVP of Marketing & Retail Delivery Emily Condon. “At Alliance, we offer online/mobile/text banking with Bill Pay and eStatements, as well access to more than 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs and 6,700 shared branches throughout the country.”

Alliance’s free checking program features no monthly maintenance fees or debit card fees, and no requirements to meet, according to Condon. And the credit union offers debit rewards.

In addition, the credit union recently launched its SmartPoints program, in which members can earn points for signing up for direct deposit, making a loan payment on time, using a credit card, or anything else on a list of services offered by the credit union. The points can be redeemed for anything from a lower interest rate on certain loans to covering non-sufficient funds (NSFs).

“Consumers need a financial institution that considers their interests not just the bottom line,” Condon said. “We encourage people to consider credit unions—such as Alliance—as a viable option.”

FOR ALLIANCE CU, THERE IS SUCH A THING AS A “FREE LUNCH”
San Jose, CA-based CU Provides Free Lunches For Sunnyvale Restaurant Patrons

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – September 26, 2011 – Alliance Credit Union made a difference in the lives of some lucky Silicon Valley area residents by providing free lunches at a Sunnyvale restaurant recently.

The San Jose-based credit union held another Make a Difference event—this time it paid for lunch for many surprised patrons of the Madhuban Indian Cuisine restaurant on Friday, September 16.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the credit union’s Make a Difference team designated a handful of tables at the restaurant as “free lunch” tables, unbeknownst to customers. Each table had a small sign which read: “What if someone did something nice for you today, just because?”

Alliance team members then presented the “check” to customers at those tables, telling them lunch was on the credit union.

“There were no strings attached—everyone who sat at our designated tables received a free lunch. Many people were surprised and then delighted,” explained SVP of Marketing & Retail Delivery Emily Condon.

In total, Alliance paid for 35 lunches. Among the comments the Alliance team members received were: “I never thought I’d be so lucky to get something like this.” “That was very nice of you, thank you.” “Are you serious?” and “I will always remember Alliance.”

A video of the day’s events can be seen at www.facebook.com/alliancecu.

“This is just a great way to thank people for supporting a local business,” Condon said.

ALLIANCE CU INTRODUCES MEMBER REWARDS PROGRAM
SmartPoints Allows Members of San Jose, CA-based CU to Earn, Redeem Points

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – July 28, 2011 – Alliance Credit Union will soon be rewarding members for what they’re already doing—using the financial institution’s products and services.

The credit union plans to launch its SmartPoints program August 3. Through the program, members can earn points for signing up for direct deposit, making a loan payment on time, using a credit card, or anything else on a list of services offered by the credit union.

“It’s as simple as it gets; there’s no need to sign up for the program” said SVP of Marketing & Retail Delivery Emily Condon. “Every time a member does something from the list, they get points. Then he or she can redeem those points for anything from lower interest rate on certain loans to covering overdraft transfer fees.”

Members can redeem their points as soon as they reach 300. The more they earn, the better the redemption incentive. Saving up to 3,000 points can mean a .25 percent rate discount on a new loan, while 5,000 points can net a .50 percent discount on a loan.

“We really are excited about this opportunity to give back to our members, and to thank them for their loyalty to Alliance,” Condon said.

Students’ reactions ranged from excitement to confusion; most, however, were surprised and grateful by the small gift.

“The point of these events is that Alliance supports its communities, and wants those that receive the money to do the same by spending the $1 at a local business,” said Emily Condon, SVP of Marketing & Retail Delivery. “We have plans to do something of this nature multiple times this year in San Jose. Be on the lookout for us throughout the downtown area and you may walk away $1 richer.”

1979 Datsun 210 Hatchback Owned by Fremont Resident Declared the Winner

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – September 29, 2010 – After the public votes were tallied, the winner of Alliance Credit Union's Second Annual "Ugly Car Contest" is a 1979 Datsun 210 hatchback owned by Bob McGowan of Fremont, CA.

2010 Ugly Car Contest Winner: Bob McGowan and his ’79 Datsun 210
McGowan, who received the most votes from among the five finalists, will be presented with his $5,000 grand prize during a special ceremony to be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 19 at Alliance CU—Fremont Financial Center (in the Fremont Hub Shopping Center), 39174 Argonaut Way, Fremont, CA. The public is invited; appetizers will be served. To attend, please RSVP via the credit union’s website, alliancecreditunion.org.

The public voted through the San Jose-based credit union’s Facebook page. Alliance serves anyone living in San Clara, San Mateo, and Alameda counties of California as well as the New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender counties in North Carolina.

McGowan bought his Datsun back in 1982. It now sports more than 302,000 miles. He said that raising three children on a single income has meant setting financial priorities--getting a new car was not one of them. “I never thought I’d be happy to have the ugliest car around,” he said, upon hearing the news. “I’ve been in need of a newer car for some time now and hinting to my wife as we drove around I’d challenge her to point out one car in worse condition than mine, just one, but she never could. Winning the Alliance Credit Union’s ugly car contest will finally allow me to purchase a newer vehicle.” McGowan can use the $5,000 toward the purchase of a new or used car.

Last year, the credit union received 23 entries for its inaugural competition, won by a vandalized Saturn S-Series coup owned by Jean-Pierre Saintard of Wilmington, NC. This year, the number of entries nearly doubled to 43.

“It was a great injustice to have our car vandalized, but at least there is a positive ending to an otherwise negative situation,” said Mr. Saintard. “We are so excited to be the winners of Alliance’s Ugly Car contest – the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.”

Alliance Credit Union will present Mr. Saintard and his wife, Rose Bachtel, with a $5,000 check at an event at 1:00 p.m. ET today. The event, held at Alliance Credit Union’s Racine Financial Center located at 237 Racine Drive, will feature the winning car, WECT News Co-Anchor Frances Weller, as well as entertainment and a BBQ luncheon.

“With the success of the government’s ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program, Alliance realized how many people need help getting a new car,” said Emily Condon, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Retail Delivery. “The ‘Ugly Car Contest’ is our small way of helping a member while keeping the spirit of the ‘clunkers’ program alive.”

The Alliance Helping Hands NC also volunteered on April 25 for Hands on Wilmington – a public service day where members of the community work together to make a difference. Other spring activities included a flower sale benefitting Wilmington’s Carousel Center for Abused Children ($300 raised) and a food drive for the Wilmington Food Bank.

Back on the west coast, Alliance held its Second Annual Bike Raffle and BBQ benefiting TurningWheels for Kids. Alliance Credit Union reaches out to local small businesses
New complimentary services aim to help small business stay strong in current economy

SAN JOSE, Calif –April 9, 2009—At Alliance Credit Union, the month of April is dedicated to helping the small business owner. Highlights include the release of a new suite of online tools to help with business finances, a seminar “Taking Steps in a Downturn Economy”, and a Small Business Workshop event where attendees could win a $250 gift card for their business.

Alliance Credit Union wants to help Silicon Valley small business owners and entrepreneurs efficiently manage their business finances. Knowing that both time and resources are limited for small business owners, Alliance launched a new service to help with the clerical tasks that come with owning a business. Small Business FinanceWorks™ (SBFW) is a complimentary suite of online tools available for all Alliance business checking members. SBFW streamlines billing and invoicing while expanding customer payment options such as credit card processing. Remote deposit saves times by allowing a business owner to scan checks from the office rather than taking a trip to the branch. Payroll services are also available with SBFW. Currently, Alliance Credit Union is the only financial institution in Northern California to offer SBFW to its customers.

Alliance is also offering a free seminar that provides valuable insight for managing a business during these economic times. Presented by Silicon Valley SCORE, the Taking Steps in a Downturn Economy seminar will be conducted on Thursday, April 23, 2009 from 5:30pm to 7pm at Alliance Credit Union’s headquarters located at 3315 Almaden Expwy, Suite 55, San Jose, California. If interested, please send an email to service@alliancecreditunion.org to register.

Ending the month will be a Small Business Workshop on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the Curtner Financial Center located at 265 Curtner Ave., San Jose, California. Attendees will receive expert advice from a member of the SBFW product development team. Small business owners will learn how to use the new software and see how it can help simplify their business finances. Two sessions are available, 11am-2pm and 4pm-6pm. Registered attendees have a chance to win a $250 office supplies gift card. There will be one winner per session. In order to be entered into the drawing, attendees must R.S.V.P. at service@alliancecreditunion.org with their name, business name, phone, and preferred session time.
